Vernon M. Lawson Sr. was born on June 15, 1959, right here in Corpus Christi, and it was here, on February 11, 2025, that he peacefully left us at the age of 65.
Vernon was a proud graduate of Miller High School, and from those early years, he carved out a life of purpose and dedication. For over two decades, he built and nurtured Vernon's Hardwood Floors, a testament to his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. Vernon had a heart as vast as the Texas sky. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to help a friend, a neighbor, or even a stranger. His radiant smile was a constant, a beacon that drew people to him. He was a man who knew everyone, and everyone knew him. His candid opinions were always forthcoming, delivered with honesty and conviction. "Pops," as he was affectionately known, was a mentor and confidant to many. He listened with an open heart and offered advice that came from a place of genuine care. His grandkids, Daejah, Kiana, Kaiden and A’Lynn could do no wrong in their grandfather's eyes, and they knew his love was unconditional.
Family was the cornerstone of Vernon's life. He cherished the time he spent with his children, Vernon Jr., Anthony, and Latoya. He delighted in the joy of his grandchildren. Daily conversations with his brothers, long and heartfelt, were a source of comfort and connection. He found simple pleasures in his daily walks, in the melodies of his favorite music, and in the quiet moments spent on his back porch.
He was preceded in death by his parents John W. Lawson and Nina G. Lawson, stepmother Juanita Lawson, and by his brothers Victor and Richard (Shawn) Lawson. But he leaves behind a large and loving family, 7 brothers, Tyrone Mitchell (Judy), John "Rusty" Lawson (Wanda Ann), Carl Lawson (Sharon), Michael Lawson (Chris), Von Lawson, John "Bud" Lawson (Terry), and Mark Lawson, and 8 sisters Moyna Clayton, Wonda Wilson, Cheryl Lawson, Jacqueline Jelks, Donna Downs (Rusty), Jennifer Jackson (Steven), Nina Jean Lawson, and Tonya Lawson. As well as Denise, Minnie, Ralph, Monica, Kayden, and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and those who gave him the title of Pops.. Vernon's legacy is one of love, generosity, and genuine human connection. He touched the lives of so many, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories. Though he is gone, his spirit will live on in our hearts. Let us remember his laughter, his kindness, and the love he shared so freely.
